How Alonso 'ignited a spark' at Aston Martin

Team Principal Mike Krack believes the addition of Fernando Alonso will create a positive influence on the Aston Martin team.

Aston Martin's Mike Krack insists that the signing of Fernando Alonso will generate a positive 'spark' within the team. Following Sebastian Vettel's retirement announcement earlier in the season, Alonso was swiftly confirmed as an Aston Martin driver for 2023, making the switch from Alpine. When asked about the impact Alonso would have on the Silverstone-based team, Krack pointed to an example of the 41-year-old's determination in the 2022 season. "I think with Fernando, I always hold up this picture of the Mexican Grand Prix, about his frustration of not having finished seventh," Krack explained to media, including RacingNews365 .com . "This is an example of dedication and motivation. "So, if you if you have someone with this passion and drive to win, I think it has an impact on the team, and we could clearly see that. "Everybody was really happy to have this guy in the car last Tuesday, so I think he ignited another spark that, from his own passion and desire to win, onto the team."

Krack dismisses fears of future fallout

Alonso took part in his first outing for Aston Martin at the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, having been permitted to do so by Alpine. In the one-day test, Alonso clocked 97 laps behind the wheel of the AMR22, with Krack providing a glowing report from the Spaniard's first day at the team. "It was very impressive. [We were] very impressed by the efficiency of transmitting the messages," he responded. "It was straight to the point at all times. It was very friendly and open, transparent, I think in both directions. So, we're very pleased how this day went." When asked if he had any concerns over potential disagreements with Alonso in the future, Krack refuted any fears over team harmony. "I don't think so to be honest," responded Krack. "I think we had a very, very good start, and we will really try to build on that. "I have I have no indications that anything could in the wrong direction."
