Hamilton denies that 2022 was his worst season in F1

The 2022 F1 season became the first of Lewis Hamilton's career in which he has not recorded a race win. Despite this, the Mercedes driver feels that he has had more challenging years in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton does not feel that 2022 was his toughest season in F1, though acknowledges that it is probably in the "top three" of his hardest years. The campaign marked the first time in the Briton's Formula 1 career that he has not recorded a race win, with his best result being second place which he achieved at five Grands Prix. His final position of sixth in the World Championship was also his lowest placing so far. However, this does not mean that Hamilton considers the season as his worst in the sport.

Hamilton pinpoints F1 year that was tougher than 2022

When asked if 2022 had been his toughest year in F1, Hamilton pointed to an earlier season that he found to be more challenging, particularly on a personal level. "I think 2011 was probably the hardest year I had, just in terms of... just in life," the seven-time World Champion told media, including RacingNews365.com . "This year [was] probably not the greatest. It's up there with the probably top three of the worst seasons [I've had]." While it was a more difficult campaign for Mercedes than in previous years, Hamilton is taking the positives from it. "It's been, I think, a much stronger year in terms of myself, in terms of how I worked with the team, how we've all stayed united," he explained. "So I think it's been mostly pluses from this year." Mercedes ended the season in third place in the Constructors' Championship, with a deficit of 39 points to second-placed Ferrari.
