Mick Schumacher showed on the first day of the Japanese Grand Prix why Haas F1 is still keeping him uncertain about 2023. The driver made an embarrassing mistake after test starts and got an irate team boss Guenther Steiner on his roof, pointing the finger.

After his painful debut year in Formula 1, in which Schumacher finished without any points along with his teammate Nikita Mazepin, there has been little change in his development this season. Because of his eighth place at Silverstone and sixth place in Austria, he is on 12 points, but that is all that can be said.

While Kevin Magnussen showed what he is capable of in Japan with two P5's, Schumacher disappointed again. The driver could be satisfied with a seventh time, only he made sure to forget all about it at the end of the session.

Although he simply had to drive his car to the pit lane after the test start, he took such a risk on the wet track that he drove his car into the crash barrier. As a result, Schumacher missed the second free practice, Haas had a lot of work to do and the Americans also faced a lot of extra costs.

Schumacher's departure untenable

Still Haas did not speak out about Schumacher's future. After the incident in Japan, the doubts do not seem to have eased by any means, meaning Schumacher will have to prove himself in a big way over the next five races to retain his current position.

However, it makes more sense for Haas to take the safe bet and look for a reliable replacement for Schumacher. Although it will be very unfortunate if Schumacher disappears from Formula 1 after just two seasons, he can by no means complain about the amount of opportunities he has been given in the motorsport class.
