Binotto on missed win: 'That has affected the rest of the race'

For the seventh time this season, Charles Leclerc failed to convert his pole position into a win. Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto thinks the Monegasque's poor start cost him the win in Singapore.

Leclerc was in a good position at the start of the Singapore Grand Prix. Pole position is extremely important at the Marina Bay street circuit, as often the race is won from first position. Yet things immediately went wrong for Leclerc because of an inferior start, allowing Sergio Perez to overtake the Ferrari driver immediately.

"I think the start was not great. We lost position at the start and that has affected the rest of the race. So had we had a better start, I think we would get a better result", Binotto begins at Sky Sports. According to the Ferrari team boss, his drivers were unlucky during the race because there was not enough grip on the new asphalt. "On the start itself, I think Charles had a good reaction time. He went well in terms of procedures but later on, he had too much wheelspin because there was too little grip."

Ferrari addressed problems

Still, Binotto is not dissatisfied, as the race went a lot better than at Spa and Zandvoort. The car performed well on both a wet and dry track, so the team boss believes Ferrari has addressed some of the problems.

"I think then finishing second and third overall is still a good result. If we look in terms of the Constructors’ Championship, it has been a good weekend. I think we have addressed some of the issues we had."
