Toto Wolff was looking a bit crestfallen in the Mercedes pit box after Q2. George Russell got no further than the 11th time and was therefore not allowed to take part in the final qualifying session in Singapore. In the end, Lewis Hamilton drove to a third starting spot, which still made for a happy Wolff.

Starting from the second row of the grid, Mercedes' chances for its first win this season are slim. "If you are ahead there are opportunities, if not it is going to be difficult," Wolff told Sky Sports. "I think we were hoping that this weekend would go well.... so it seems that the direction we have developed towards is correct. Generally, it seems like we are heading into the right direction especially for next year"

Will it be dry on Sunday or rain after all?

Conditions were very tricky at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. It played into Mercedes' hands on Saturday, but it remains to be seen what the weather forecast is for Sunday. "I don't know what the forecast says but dry would be good and rain would be mayhem which would be exciting The ambition is to win it but we need to be careful with our expectations."

Based on the longruns from during free practice, little can be said about the W13's speed. "Against Sainz [high fuel] it looked good. All the others didn't run. So, we don't know. It will be about what happens in the start" Wolff concluded his account.
