Max Verstappen has been appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau by Minister for Sport Conny Helder, reports Verstappen.com. The Dutchman receives this award for his achievements in Formula 1 in recent years.

According to Helder, becoming a world champion is much more complex than having talent. The minister referred to Verstappen's achievement in becoming the first Dutchman ever to win a Formula One world title. Verstappen is therefore very happy with the award.

Verstappen proud of award

"It's a great honour to receive this designation," he said. "I'm very grateful to my family and loved ones for their support since my first racing years and would also like to thank Red Bull and my personal sponsors. Without all that support I could not have got to where I am today."

"In addition, I would also like to thank my fans worldwide but especially the Orange Army. Their encouragement is overwhelming time and time again and it's great to see so many Dutch people sympathising. I am really looking forward to my home race this weekend in the Dutch Grand Prix."
