Former Formula1 driver Felipe Massa believes it is unfair to blame Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto for the course of the season so far. However, the Brazilian also stresses that the Italian is of course partly responsible.

Ferrari started the season very strongly, but seem to have lost out strategically in recent races. Red Bull Racing is leading both drivers and constructors, while Ferrari is closing in on the Mercedes. Ferrari have had to deal with bad luck this season, as well as strategic and driver errors, which have caused the Italian team to lose valuable points.

The position of team boss Mattia Binotto is now under pressure. Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher even expects Binotto to resign. Massa, on the other hand, is standing up for Binotto.

Responsible

"He is a very good engineer and also a very good guy," Massa says of the current team boss."He understands a lot about the technical side of the sport. And as I said, he's a good guy." Nevertheless, the Brazilian admits:"At the end of the day, the results are not right and even if you can't blame him completely, he is partly responsible."

Massa, with all his experience, also has advice for the Italian racing stable:"Ferrari needs to be calmer when making decisions and understand what is going on, because the mistakes in strategy that were made at the beginning of the season are still being made today. "He needs to turn the tide quickly, otherwise he may have to pay the price."
