Webber predicts just how early Verstappen could seal the championship

Former Red Bull driver, Mark Webber, has backed Max Verstappen to win his second World Drivers' Championship this season, possibly with as many as three races to go.

Mark Webber believes that Max Verstappen could win the 2022 World Championship with as many as three races to spare. Verstappen has won six of the nine Grands Prix contested so far this season and is already in a very dominant position. His closest rival is his own teammate, Sergio Perez, who currently trails him by 46 points, with the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc three points further away. According to Webber, who left Red Bull at the end of 2013, his former team have delivered a contender that is good no matter what the conditions, and Verstappen is making the most out of it. "Red Bull will continue to dominate this championship," Webber said in The Guardian during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. "They have a car that is very good on downforce levels, on all compounds of tyre."

Webber: Red Bull have pretty much an answer for anything

"It's like a tennis player on all surfaces or a golfer on all holes, short, long, chipping, putting, driving, the Red Bull can do everything," Webber continued. "Red Bull have pretty much an answer for anything at the moment, Max could wrap it up with three races to go." The Australian driver believes that Red Bull already favour Verstappen over his teammate, especially after the Dutchman's recent strong performances. "I like Sergio a lot but over the course of the season, over time, Max will just find a way to start accumulating bigger points," Webber added. "In Azerbaijan Max drove away down the road, it was a very emphatic victory. Then in Canada it's raining, it's dry, it's cold, it's tricky and Max all weekend was phenomenal."
