Sergio Perez is seen by many as Red Bull Racing's second driver, but at the press conference in Azerbaijan the Mexican stated that there is nothing about this in his new contract.

Perez longer at Red Bull

With a world title under his belt, Max Verstappen is a clear leader at Red Bull. Yet the Austrian formation argues that no one is preferred within the team. In the early stages of the season, Perez and Verstappen get equal opportunities, until one of the two really stands out above the other.

After his victory in Monaco, Perez is also fully in the title race. He is only fifteen points behind his teammate after seven races and thus third in the world championship. On Friday in Monaco Perez also signed a new contract that keeps him at Red Bull Racing until 2024.

No Verstappen clause

However, there is no question of a contract stating that he has to play second fiddle to Verstappen. ''There is nothing in my contract that says I have to finish second (behind Verstappen) or anything like that,'' Perez says according to Motorsport-total.com at the press conference.

The Mexican acknowledges that his career has taken a huge turn. At the end of 2020, he still seemed to be without a seat and now in 2022 he has the Monaco Grand Prix to his name and is competing for the world title. '' Things can change quickly in Formula 1,'' the Red Bull driver concludes.
