McLaren made progress with an update package at the Spanish Grand Prix, but ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix the Woking-based team is not yet daring to make any predictions. Team boss Andreas Seidl fears that the competition will make great strides in the coming races.

Seidl confirms that his team has been able to solve some problems with the updates it introduced in Spain, but points out that the competition has also made progress at the same time. There are few major developments planned for McLaren in the near future, he states according to Speedweek.com.

Midfield is close

The character of the circuits in Baku and Canada make it even more difficult to set expectations, according to Seidl. "We have seen this year how the results can vary depending on the circuit, so I am quite cautious with predictions," he explains.

He stresses that, moreover, Formula 1 is only at the beginning of the new generation of cars and the balance of power is different every race, especially in the midfield. "Two tenths of a second can decide whether you start the race from seventh or fourteenth place," concludes the McLaren team boss.
