F1 stewards punish Sainz for FP3 incident

Carlos Sainz has been fined ahead of qualifying for the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, and he isn't the only driver to receive a punishment.

Carlos Sainz has been handed a reprimand and fine ahead of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. The Spaniard was found guilty of impeding a rival at La Rascasse (Turn 19) during Saturday afternoon's Free Practice 3 session. Sainz has been issued with a €25,000 fine and handed his third reprimand of the season, meaning that he edges nearer to a potential ten-place grid drop.

Zhou issued with formal warning

Elsewhere, Zhou Guanyu has been issued with a formal warning – along with a €10,000 fine – after being deemed to have impeded Max Verstappen in Turns 15 and 16 during FP3. A document released by the FIA explains that Zhou's Alfa Romeo team admitted they had been at fault for not letting the driver know that Verstappen was approaching.
