Tsunoda reveals how relationship with Gasly has changed

Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly are now into their second year as teammates at AlphaTauri, and Tsunoda admits that their relationship has evolved in that time.

Yuki Tsunoda has revealed how his relationship with Pierre Gasly has changed as the pair continue into their second year as teammates. The Japanese driver joined AlphaTauri for his rookie F1 season last year, whilst Gasly had established himself as something of a team leader after being with the outfit since 2017, barring his short-lived spell at Red Bull in 2019. Since arriving at the squad, Tsunoda seems to have shared an amiable relationship with Gasly, and the pair have become popular as a duo amongst some fans on social media. "The relationship with Pierre [is] good," Tsunoda told media, including RacingNews365.com . "We chat more than last year, for sure."

Tsunoda and Gasly working to improve car

As part of this, Tsunoda says that many of their conversations now focus on how they can work to improve the car. "We are having more conversations [than] last year about how we can make the car better, or [what] the car feels like, and [how to do] things to make the car better," the driver explained. "I think those conversations, like more as a Formula 1 driver, we [are] having more than last year. "[It] definitely is the right way, the right conversations we have to develop as a team, and currently we're enjoying the progress we're [experiencing from the last races]."

How has Tsunoda progressed in 2022?

Tsunoda's rookie campaign in Formula 1 was filled with ups and downs, so much so that the 22-year-old joked in September of last year that he wasn't sure why AlphaTauri had opted to renew his contract . However, the youngster says that he is feeling more confident this season. "I think it's a different feeling compared to last year," he said. "I would say it's too early [in the season] to say I'm feeling [more] comfortable or have [more] confidence, but I think I'm feeling different compared [to] last year. "I'm more in control, I will say. I can control more situations. I know how the team's thinking, so I would say it's better." Tsunoda currently sits P12 in the World Championship standings, with 10 points to his name.
