Carlos Sainz has proven in his first year at Ferrari that he deserves a spot on the Formula 1 grid. Not only his teammate and the Ferrari fans are impressed, but also team boss Mattia Binotto is satisfied.

The former McLaren driver made the switch to Ferrari last season where he immediately made a big impression. The Spaniard helped the team to third place in the constructors' championship and he himself finished in fifth place, ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc and former teammate Lando Norris.

According to the Ferrari team boss, good preparation played a big role. Everyone made sure he could get used to his new team as quickly as possible, but the 27-year-old driver also did his best to learn and understand everything as quickly as possible. "The better the driver the quicker the process, and I think that Carlos in that respect, he has been very strong. We knew he was a good driver and in 2021 he was simply demonstrating it as well," Binotto told the official website of Formula 1.

Teammates work great together

The 52-year-old team boss also sees that Sainz and Leclerc work together. Earlier the team boss already said that he thinks he has the best lineup in Formula 1. The drivers are demanding the utmost from each other and that is exactly what he likes to see, "I like to see how those two guys fight together and are so close to each other," Binotto said.
