McLaren can look back on a successful 2021 according to CEO Zak Brown. The British racing stable lost the third spot among the constructors to Ferrari in the last few races, but has largely closed the gap with the top.

Objectives achieved.

Five podiums, one win and one pole position. McLaren had a very strong year in 2021. The team did finish fourth instead of third, because Ferrari also managed to make a big step. Still, Brown looked back at last season with great satisfaction, as the gap to Red Bull Racing and Mercedes narrowed.

"We wanted to close the gap in 2021 to the front and we’ve done that," Brown told FormulaRapida.net. According to the American, McLaren has met almost every objective and the team can now continue to improve. In a few years, Brown hopes to be fighting for world titles with McLaren.

McLaren wants to win world titles again

McLaren had a financially difficult time in recent years, but those problems have also been solved says Brown. 2022 is still too early to compete for world titles and Brown doesn't see it happening in 2023 either: "We just want to continue each year until we have our infrastructure in place, which unfortunately really won’t be until the 2024 season, because our wind tunnel will be online in another 18 months."
