Fittipaldi's brother provides update on condition after F2 crash

Pietro Fittipaldi has given an update on his brother Enzo's condition after a crash in the Formula 2 Feature Race in Saudi Arabia.

Enzo Fittipaldi has suffered a fracture to his right heel after a heavy start-line crash with Theo Pourchaire in Sunday's Formula 2 Feature Race in Saudi Arabia, according to his brother. At the start of the already-delayed race at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Pourchaire stalled in his third-place grid slot and barely got his car moving. Fittipaldi, starting the race from 18th, was accelerating away from the grid and, unsighted, struck the back of Pourchaire's car. The race was immediately red-flagged to allow for extrication of the drivers, who were both transported to hospital.

"He is awake and alert"

Pietro Fittipaldi, Enzo's elder brother and Haas F1's reserve driver, has taken to social media to provide an update. "Enzo is awake and alert and resting at the hospital," he wrote. "He has a fracture in his right heel but thankfully things are much better than what we all expected. "Thank you to the FIA, the team and all the medical staff here in Saudi Arabia."

Pourchaire feeling 'fine'

Pourchaire also posted on social media to confirm that he is "fine", albeit unsure of competing at this weekend's season finale in Abu Dhabi. "Just wanted to tell you that I'm globally fine," wrote Pourchaire. "For the moment I don't know if it's already the end of the season for me. But the most important is not that. That was a really big one and Enzo is injured. "I wish him the best recovery possible!" Sunday's race was won by Alpine-backed Oscar Piastri.
