Hamilton intends to run rainbow helmet in Saudi Arabia

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton says he plans to run the rainbow helmet he's wearing in Qatar for the final two races of the year.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton says he plans on running the same rainbow-themed helmet he's using in Qatar this weekend for the final two races of the season in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi. Hamilton unveiled his new helmet design ahead of practice at the Losail International Circuit, with the rainbow featuring prominently all over. The rainbow is the symbol of universal inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community, with homosexuality completely illegal in Qatar. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, under Islamic Sharia law, also have the same stance on homosexuality, with neither country legally recognising same-sex couples. Hamilton has made it clear that he intends to run with the same helmet design in those two countries. "I'll be using the same helmet through probably the last two races after this, or at least next week also," Hamilton told the media, including RacingNews365.com , on Saturday in Qatar. "I'm not aware of anyone commenting on it or any negative feedback. "On the back it says, 'We stand together' and 'Love is love', and it's important for me to represent that community here, as I know there are several situations which aren't perfect and need to be highlighted. "But I hope that someone reaches out. I would love to know what is happening here and what they're doing to help support that community more, the LGBTQ+ community, [so] I wait to hear."
