Yuki Tsunoda has said there was 'nothing he could do' to get out of the way of the Red Bulls in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix. The AlphaTauri driver ran wide at Turn 11, resulting in Sergio Perez also going wide and Max Verstappen instinctively taking his foot off the gas.

The incident cost Red Bull Racing a chance to beat Valtteri Bottas' pole time, leading team boss Christian Horner to openly criticise Tsunoda after the session.

The Japanese driver, however, doesn't think he did anything wrong. "I didn't mess up the Red Bull. Just a mistake by themselves. I don't know about Max? Did I hold up Max as well?", he says in conversation with Crash.net.

Tsunoda fails to see what he did wrong

Tsunoda is then shown footage from the closing stages of Q3, to which he replies, "I went outside and I couldn't do anything more than that one. I mean, I don't know, where should I go there?"

"If I had another chance I'd do the same thing. I don't know what should I do? Do you think I did wrong thing? I'll have to discuss with Red Bull, but I don't think I did anything wrong," said Tsunoda, who also revealed he was happy with his own qualifying. Although he will take a grid penalty, he managed to reach Q3 again.
