For Lando Norris this weekend was the opportunity to gain his first victory in Formula 1. On Saturday he qualified fastest and for a long time, it seemed that he would win the Russian Grand Prix. However, the rain in the final laps threw a spanner in the works. He decided to continue on his dry tyres while the rest of the grid changed to intermediates. That cost him the victory.

This Grand Prix was one full of different emotions for Norris. He qualified on pole position but soon lost his first spot to his former teammate Carlos Sainz. After a few laps, the Briton managed to regain the lead in the Russian Grand Prix and it looked like he was going to win the race.

Norris had built up a big lead, but the pressure from fellow countryman Lewis Hamilton was increasing. In the final few laps, the lead was just over one second. On top of that, it started to rain heavily on some parts of the track just before the flag was dropped. Lewis Hamilton decided to pit on intermediates, but Lando Norris took a huge risk by continuing on his hard tyres.

This proved not to be the best choice and his car became uncontrollable on the slippery tarmac. The emotional Norris eventually finished seventh, while Lewis Hamilton scored the hundredth victory of his career. Listen in on the final minutes of Norris' onboard radio.
