Damon Hill already told us that he suspects that Max Verstappen crashed with Lewis Hamilton on purpose. A few days after the Italian Grand Prix the former world champion still believes that the crash was the fault of the Dutchman.

After the Italian Grand Prix, Formula One fans were divided into camps. Some thought the crash was clearly Verstappen's fault, and others thought it was more of a racing incident. Hill is in the first camp, and even suggested earlier that Verstappen might have done this action on purpose.

''I just think it's a shame that in our sport it inevitably ends up in crashes like this. I don't think it's a demonstration of skill, it actually shows a lack of self-control. It was preventable. The question is whether it's an error of judgement, or a deliberate unwillingness to concede. They both play hardball, but I think you have to have at least a wheel lead to pass someone on the outside. Max was never in that position,'' Hill said to Motorsport.com.

''He had the option of going onto the run-off lane earlier, avoiding contact and having a go somewhere else, but he didn't. Maybe he knew he'd have been there if Lewis came for it. The consequences are quite serious and fortunately Lewis is unhurt. I've seen a picture of his head being crushed by the tire. If Max had released the clutch, it could have ended very badly. But that is something Max has no control over'', concludes the former 1996 Formula One world champion.
