Lando Norris' strong third season with McLaren as the Briton currently finds himself behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the standings, and team boss Andreas Seidl believes his driver has what it takes to finish there at season's end. Sergio Perez failed to score points at the British GP, opening the door for the McLaren driver to move back into the top three. Norris, Valtteri Bottas and Checo are only separated by nine points after 10 races, however Seidl is hopeful the Briton can finish in the top three of the Drivers' Championship. “Whether it is a realistic target [to finish third] is difficult to say because the Red Bull car and the Mercedes car is clearly a better car,” Seidl told RacingNews365.com and other members of the media. "Valtteri and Checo have shown some great races this year, and also from the past, what they can do. “Down to the strong performance by Lando, together with the team and the competitive car we have this year, we’ve managed after 10 races to be in third, so it’s not unrealistic to stay there. "Let’s see what we can do in the second half of the season." Seidl was also happy to point out that McLaren have improved as a team overall so far in 2021, as the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull at the British GP had been reduced compared to last season. "We can see that the gap to Red Bull and Mercedes was a lot smaller than last year so its a good step forward again," Seidl added. "It's also positive to see that, for this race here, that it looks like there's a bit of a gap opening up compared to the team's behind us and Ferrari. "That shows the progress we are making."
