While the first sprint race was a great success for Max Verstappen, it was not the case for team mate Sergio Perez. He took the risk as discussed before and ended at the back of the grid.

It costs him, as is now known, a good starting position. Perez will start from the pit lane tomorrow. In a PRESS RELEASE from Honda, Perez says that he is disappointed. Mainly in himself.

"It's very unfortunate that I have to withdraw from the sprint race today because the car felt very good. It was a bad day for me and I can only say sorry to the team because I lost the rear of the car during the fight with Lando, which ruined our day." He then goes into a little more detail about the moment.

"I was in the middle of the corner, already taking quite a bit of gas and I think I got into the dirty air and became a passenger very early in the corner. I avoided any contact but after the spin we had too much vibration on the tyres and that was it. The team was worried about the damage the vibrations could do and there was nothing left to gain, so they decided to take the car out of the race."

This follows on from his disappointing sprint race Saturday. "We're at the back of the grid tomorrow and it's not easy to overtake here, but it looks like we have a lot of speed in the car, so you can be sure I'll be pushing hard to score as many points as possible. It's a low point for me, but tomorrow is a new day and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do."

Perez has shown on many occasions that he can do a great job catching up from behind. The same will need to happen on Sunday if Red Bull are to maintain their lead in the Constructors' Championship.
