Lando Norris continued his excellent season at the Austrian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver started from second position and secured a podium finish in the race by passing Lewis Hamilton to take third place.

In the opening stages of the race, Norris had Sergio Pérez right behind him, eager pass him. Whilst making a move, however, Norris forced Pérez wide and into the gravel, causing the Mexican to drop down into the midfield. The race committee gave Norris a five second penalty for this incident.

Time penalty for Norris

After finishing third, the time penalty was almost forgotten, but team principal Andreas Seidl commented on the incident in conversation with Sky Sports F1. "Personally, I didn't agree at all with the time penalty Lando received for defending towards Pérez," Seidl admitted candidly in front of the cameras.

"The cars were completely side by side. Then of course you should not give a penalty. Pérez was also on the outside", Seidl stated. Despite the incident, Norris gained 15 points for the world championship, which puts him in fourth place. Pérez maintains a lead over Norris, although it is now only three points.
