Verstappen: Vague Pirelli statement just raises more questions

Max Verstappen has voiced his concerns regarding Pirelli's statement about the Azerbaijan failures.

Max Verstappen has admitted he's concerned about Pirelli's statement regarding the Azerbaijan tyre failures that resulted in him, and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, crashing out of the race. A statement from Pirelli explained the failures, but hinted that the teams had been running their tyres outside of recommended parameters. Both teams have strongly denied doing anything unusual with their tyres, with Pirelli's Mario Isola explaining to media on Thursday that no rules were broken by the teams. But Verstappen is very concerned about how the situation has been handled. "I think it's very vague, I think it just raises even more questions," Verstappen told Sky Sports F1. "But we have the data, we can see tyre pressures while driving. And we gave it to them. And we were not below the minimum. So, from our side, we didn't do anything wrong as a team. "But yeah for me, I was very upset to not win, but it's also safety. Imagine I would have crashed to the left. I think that would have been a really big impact at 300 [km/h]. So two crashes, luckily everyone walked away from." The Dutch driver explained that Pirelli shouldn't be insinuating that the teams have been doing anything they shouldn't be. "Clearly both teams were operating within their limits, then I don't understand why you cannot say the teams didn't do anything wrong because they've got the data, like we gave it to them," he said. "And you can clearly see also in pictures, that there was something happening. And I find that a little bit tough to take, you know, when it's about safety, and people could have been hurt that they just say in a vague way that 'we don't know what the teams are doing'. "Well, we know what we have been doing. We showed it to them. And it is within the limits. "They saw it. They saw the data. They have it."
