Wolff: Horner is a windbag who wants to be on camera

The Mercedes team principal has taken a dig at Christian Horner as the war of words between Mercedes and Red Bull continues at the Azerbaijan GP

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has called Christian Horner a windbag as the debate about Formula 1's flexi-wings rages on at the Azerbaijan GP. Horner previously said that Wolff should keep his mouth shut after footage from Friday practice in Baku showed that the Mercedes rear wing was flexing just as much as the Red Bull rear wing. Wolff was not pleased with Horner's comments. "Christian is a bit of a windbag, who wants to be on camera," Wolff told Sky Sports. "It's easy to be punchy when you're at the top of the timesheet, but you should be a little bit more modest I think. "The topic (flexi-wings) remains open. The last team to be taken disqualified because of flexi-wings was Red Bull in 2014 so Horner has a bit of a track record there but you just have to get on with things." On the track, Mercedes have been struggling in Baku with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas both unhappy with the handling of the W12. Wolff has shed some light on where Mercedes are losing time around the 6.003km Azerbaijan street circuit. "It's all about aerodynamic balance," said Wolff. "It's pretty difficult to describe. Then accommodating the tyres means having the front and rear axle in an operating window that works. "We seem to struggle in the twisty, slow bits. We are losing all the time on this track in the Old Town in one corner. So we don't know if it's inherent in the car or not."
