After his disappointing seventh place in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton was not very critical of his team Mercedes. According to the reigning world champion he could not have done better that weekend. In Azerbaijan, the Briton has started to recover a little.

Criticism behind closed doors

Normally Hamilton is someone who always praises and thanks his team at length. Especially after winning a Grand Prix. That was different in Monaco. There he revealed after the race that he was going to have some tough discussions with his engineers that night. "Certain things were not done that should have been done," the Brit told us.

In Azerbaijan Hamilton is backtracking a bit. "In the heat of the moment you don't always say the best things", Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf quotes the press conference. "Constructive criticism is good, but behind closed doors."

Win together, lose together

In Monaco Hamilton also said he could not have done anything else that weekend, indirectly placing all the blame on the team. He now revisits that too. "There was no one guilty party, I was part of the people who made decisions. We win together, and we lose together. Everyone is so dedicated, that's what makes this such a great team. There's no point in pointing fingers, we have to work together."
