Sebastian Vettel has scored his first points as an Aston Martin driver after finishing fifth in the streets of Monaco. The four-time world champion is extremely pleased with what he calls a "great result". It pushes Aston Martin ahead of Alpine and AlphaTauri.

Unlike his former rival Lewis Hamilton, Aston Martin opted to keep Vettel out on the circuit for a long first stint. In his post-race interview with Sky Sports, the German driver hailed this strategy.

"It was a great result for us. We can be happy with having two cars in the points. Great decisions on the pit wall and good pace in the car when it matter and that made the difference today. The tyres weren't fresh anymore but I was able to still go faster than I had up to that point and get a little bit faster the next lap and that made the difference," Vettel said.

Battle with Gasly

Vettel came out of the pits as Pierre Gasly came around the first corner. The two had a little battle up the hill, but Vettel managed to come out on top. The German talks through those moments.

"The pitstop was just good enough. We had a little bit of a wait but it was very, very tight with Pierre coming out. I didn't see him initially but I knew he was there and then it was a drag race," he added.

"Eventually he had to back out of it. It was tight but it worked. As I said it's great for us as a result."
