Grosjean's Mercedes test won't be affected by French GP date switch

Romain Grosjean's upcoming test with Mercedes won't be hampered by the change of dates for the French GP, according to the team..

Romain Grosjean will still get to take part in his day of testing with Mercedes in late June, the team have confirmed. Grosjean is due to return to an F1 cockpit for the first time since his horrific Bahrain crash next month, with Mercedes offering him a day of track time in their W10. This test, on June 29, was set to take place two days after he would also carry out demo laps in front of his home crowd at the French GP. However, the French GP date has now been pushed a week forward as a result of the Turkish GP not being able to take place. But Mercedes have moved to allay fears that Grosjean won't be able to take part in his test as planned, but he won't be able to carry out his French GP demo as it clashes with the Road America IndyCar round. "Test still goes ahead on the original planned date, the demo laps won't be possible though due to the date change as it clashes with his IndyCar race," Mercedes said on social media. "But he will still get a full day in W10 as planned, don't worry!" Speaking at the announcement of the test a few weeks ago, Grosjean was overjoyed to be able to return to an F1 cockpit in far happier circumstances than his last outing. "I am so excited to jump back in an F1 car!" Grosjean wrote in an official Mercedes F1 statement announcing his return. "It will be a special opportunity for me and to drive a World Championship-winning Mercedes will be a unique experience. I'm very grateful to Mercedes F1 and to Toto [Wolff] for the opportunity. "The first I heard about the chance to drive a Mercedes was in my hospital bed in Bahrain when Toto was speaking to the media and made the invitation."
