Ferrari impressed during Friday's free practice in Portugal. Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were very competitive over one fast lap and Leclerc's long runs also looked good. He was helped by an update to the floor, but Ferrari will remove that for the rest of the weekend.

Ferrari only had one new floor ready

Ferrari fitted an experimental floor to Leclerc's car on Friday. The main difference was that now there were six instead of four upright flaps visible in front of the rear wheel. The Scuderia however only had time to make one such floor before the Portuguese GP.

For the sake of equal treatment between drivers Leclerc will now have to continue with the old floor for the rest of the weekend, according to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com. Instead of this weekend, the new floor will therefore only debut in Spain.

Leclerc doesn't have to mourn this, as Carlos Sainz showed in the second free practice, with the fourth-fastest, time that also the old floor in Portimao is fast enough to be the fastest team in the midfield.
