Vettel: First two races not a fair reflection of where I am

Sebastian Vettel has not had an ideal start to his debut season with Aston Martin, but the German feels that there is more potential than the first two races of 2021 have shown.

Sebastian Vettel does not feel that his difficult start to the 2021 F1 season has accurately reflected where he and the Aston Martin team are at. The German struggled at the opening races in Bahrain and Imola, and finished both Grand Prix in 15th place. Despite this, Vettel remains hopeful for the coming races and feels that what he has learned in the first two weekends will only help him going forwards. "We know it's not the position we'd love to be in for this year," Vettel told RacingNews365.com and other select media. "But we accept the challenge and we try to get back as quick as we can. "You are fighting all the other teams and they're not on holiday, so it's not an easy task to catch up. But I think we are trying to do everything we can. "I think the first two races we had, I don't think [they were] a fair reflection of where I am, where we are, because I feel that mileage in the car helps me to get things together, to be able to string the laps together." Vettel - who made the switch to Aston Martin after six years at Ferrari - is willing to be patient when it comes to seeing a reversal in his fortunes and says he wouldn't want to take a shortcut, as he is accepting of the work he has to put in at the moment. "I am quite curious for the next couple of races," the four-times world champion explained. "I wouldn't like to take a shortcut now to halfway through the season or the end of the season or to next year to see where we are. I think the work we can do right now is very essential to whatever comes in the following races or the following time after that."
