Vettel: Aston Martin need a big step forward

The four-time world champion feels a lot more progress is needed if Aston Martin want to compete against McLaren, Ferrari and AlphaTauri.

Sebastian Vettel believes Aston Martin need to make some big strides with their development if they want to fight towards the sharp end of the midfield. Vettel finished 13th at the Emilia Romagna GP and is yet to show any indications of good form this season following a torrid season-opener in Bahrain. "We had a few new parts in Imola, but I think we need a big step to really make a difference," Vettel told Sky Sports. "We will get some more [upgrades] in the next races and hope to make a step forward but as I said, we are more in the back of the midfield at the moment. "But that can change quickly if we take small steps forward and when first of all it becomes a bit calm again and we have a decent race." Vettel also admits Aston Martin need to ignore the off-track discussion about the new regulations to the floor which the team have been vocal about in the last month although team principal Otmar Szafnauer has backtracked on his proposal for a mid-season rule change . "I don't think there's much you can do, what can you do?," Vettel concluded.
