McLaren's Andreas Seidl has heaped praise on Lando Norris, after the British driver scored another podium on Sunday. Norris came home in third place after a competitive weekend that even looked, briefly, like it might yield a second place finish for the McLaren driver. Norris fought valiantly on worn soft tyres to keep the recovering Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton behind, but was passed by the reigning Champion with three laps to go. The 21 year old was able to add to his podium tally, having claimed his first podium finish last season at the Austrian Grand Prix, and his Imola performance suitably impressed his boss Andreas Seidl "Lando is flying at the moment," Seidl enthusiastically told Sky Sports F1. "He definitely made the next step as a driver also. "Not just here. Already, in Bahrain, you could see in winter that he definitely made the next step but also as a person and as a driver. "I think he digested last season, together with his engineering team, in the right way. It's normal also that these young guys make steps especially in the first years, they have to make it, otherwise they will never make it to the top but just great how he's putting it off." Having gone for soft tyres for the race restart, Norri's immediate pace helped him to get ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and then fend off the Monegasque until the chequered flag. "He has the confidence to put the laps in and what he did today again was great," Seidl said. "A great call from the team putting the soft tyres on at the restart. It was a bit of a gamble for there was a bit of a have a gamble if that works out to get to the end but it worked out, so great call from the team."
