Miami joins the 2022 Formula 1 calendar

Formula 1 have confirmed a 10-year deal to race in Miami for the first time. It will be the 11th different American venue the sport has visited in it's 71-year history.

Formula 1 have announced Miami will be the latest destination to join the calendar, when it joins the schedule in 2022. The high-speed street circuit will take place around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL team the Miami Dolphins. The new 5.41km track in the Miami Gardens will feature 19 corners. There will be three long straights which potentially allows for three DRS zones with an estimated top speed of 320km/h. “We are thrilled to announce that Formula 1 will be racing in Miami beginning in 2022," Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali told the press. "The US is a key growth market for us, and we are greatly encouraged by our growing reach in the US which will be further supported by this exciting second race." There will be a programme to support local businesses and the community, to ensure an additional tourist and economic boost which the Miami Grand Prix is set to provide. An exact date is yet to be confirmed for the event. “The Hard Rock stadium entertainment campus in Miami Gardens exists to host the biggest global events to benefit the entire greater Miami region and Formula 1 racing is as big as it gets," CEO of the Miami Dolphins Tom Garfinkel told the press. "We have worked with specialist designers to create a racetrack that we, Formula 1 and the FIA believe will provide great racing and we hope to create best in-class unique fan experiences that are reflective of the diverse and dynamic nature of Miami.”
