Hamilton told Mercedes: I am not weird

The seven-time world champion has revealed what he first told Mercedes when he joined the team. He believes it was a key moment in his Formula 1 career that kickstarted his unprecedented success in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton has revealed one of the first things he told Mercedes was that he was not a strange person. The Brit joined Mercedes in 2013 and has gone on to win six world titles with the team and accumulate 96 wins in Formula 1 to become the most successful driver the sport has seen. He feels his relationship with Mercedes from the get-go has been key to his triumphs over the last eight years. "It's a relationship like no previous relationship," Hamilton told Gazzetta Dello Sport. "When I joined the team I immediately said, 'I am the way I am, I am not weird but I am just the way I am. I am happy with who I am and besides I want to win championships for you, I want to grow'. "They gave me the space to grow and that is why I ended up with the best team in Formula 1 to be able to do that." Hamilton's way of life has divided fans and he thinks the full backing of team principal Toto Wolff and Mercedes has enabled the Silver Arrows to endure unprecedented success in the sport. "My lifestyle has also not changed anything," added Hamilton. "We have won a lot, we are the strongest team, full of sponsors, we have been followed the most on the social media and everything stems from a fundamental part of the cooperation. "It is looking from above at the best solution, never alone and always different. trying out roads. Success is right under your nose, but it comes from very far away."
