Italian media hold their breath in fear of Aston Martin

Sebastian Vettel was told in 2020 that Ferrari would not renew his contract at the end of the season. Opting against hanging up his helmet, the German has since joined Aston Martin who unveiled their car on Wednesday. It looks as though the German will have a strong package which is already striking fear into the Italian media.

Aston Martin unveiled the AMR21 on Wednesday in a star-studded affair and the British marque's entry has already caught the attention of the Italian press. For example, La Gazzetta dello Sport believe Aston Martin and Sebastian Vettel already have a common goal for 2021. "Look at how beautiful the Aston Martin is. Beating Ferrari is agent Vettel's first mission," stated the Italian outlet in reference to the new James Bond film that will be released later this year. The launch was no doubt spectacular as James Bond, or Daniel Craig rather, and NFL star and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady were present via video call to wish the F1 team well ahead of the new season. "If the title were handed out based on looks, then perhaps Aston Martin would already have the advantage over the rest of the grid, as the beautiful presentation was capped off by Lawrence Stroll expressing his confidence in the car and team. Given Stroll senior's great business reputation, there is no doubt the car will be competitive," Gazzetta dello Sport concluded. The Corriere dello Sport echoed those sentiments, predicting Aston Martin will go far while expressing fear that they will be motivated to beat Ferrari in 2021. "Vettel also seems to have regained his smile and he too will want to compete at the front of the grid as quickly as possible," Corriere wrote. "It isn't without reason that the team expressed their ambition to compete for the world title in three to five years. "It was clear at the presentation of the Aston Martin car that Vettel has turned the page on Ferrari. The German is looking forward again and that seems to be the right idea as he now has the incredibly powerful Mercedes engine behind him. "The power unit will be the same one used by Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes car, so Aston Martin have everything that is needed to fight for the podium."
