Binotto will miss F1 races in bid to prepare Ferrari for 2022

Mattia Binotto is seemingly a man under pressure, but with Ferrari set to endure another tough season in 2021, the team boss is looking to put his focus elsewhere. RacingNews365 can report that the Italian will likely miss several races this season in order to be 2022 ready.

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is set to miss a number of races throughout the 2021 F1 season, as he instead pivots his focus towards the 2022 regulation changes. Binotto, who also missed several races last season, is prioritising preparations for 2022, when revolutionary regulation changes will essentially wipe the slate clean. In his absence, on-the-ground duties fell to Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies in 2020, although it's currently unclear whether he will reassume a similar role this time around. "Last year, I missed some races because in the end, there is an entire company to manage and it's not only the race weekend at the race track," Binotto stated to the media including RacingNews365.com . "There are a lot of things going on back at Maranello, a lot of people to manage, co-ordinate, and the activity itself. "This year will hopefully be a 23-race championship. It will be very long, it will be very dense in the second half, and there is quite a big challenge for 2022 as well to face".
