AlphaTauri rider Pierre Gasly has made a contribution when it comes to the discussion on the Drive to Survive series on Netflix, and the extent to which it adds value to the sport. Whereas previously Verstappen was critical of the overly creative editing of some moments in the series, Gasly now takes a different approach with a diplomatic, milder view.

“I do believe it's a fantastic series. It does feel weird to watch Netflix and see yourself," Gasly said on a Youtube Q&A. As an argument underlying his appreciation of the series, Gasly points to the wider audience that Netflix reaches, and the positive impact this has on Formula 1.

“I think it gave a lot of exposure to Formula 1 and actually engage the people even more with the sport. I had very very good feedback from people around me about the series. Also from people that didn't follow F1 before."

Shows the personal story

As a second argument, Gasly argues that the documentary crew can sometimes give a better picture of the person behind the drivers, and that this increased attention to the person is an added value for the sport. He explained: “I think the exposure for the sport has been great. I do feel it also shows a bit more personal sides of the drivers than we can see just on tv from the races."

“I do feel it shows also a bit more personal sides of the drivers than we can see just on tv from the races. Sometimes after a race, depending how it went, your emotions may come across on tv a bit differently than who you are. exactly, and people don't really see the personal side of the drivers, and i think they've managed to bring that a bit more into the series."
