Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has warned Formula 1 of the upcoming new engine regulations. According to the Austrian, F1 should not make the same mistake as it did with the 2014 regulations.

New rules

According to Wolff, the V6 hybrid engines which Formula 1 has been running since 2014 are too complex and too expensive. In spite of this, these rules will continue to apply until 2025. In the meantime, a lot of work is already being done in the background on the new regulations that will come into force in 2026.

"The discussion was very good. One of the more positive ones. One of the positives. It's interesting where the auto industry goes, because everything develops in the direction of electric mobility," said Wolff according to Motorsport.com.

Costs

"I believe we should look at the costs. Developing a completely new power unit is not somewhere we should go" , says the Austrian. "I don't think it's about simplifying, it's just about trying to not have escalating costs."
