Spa-Francorchamps will be extensively rebuilt in the coming years. The circuit in the Ardennes will have new gravel pits at a number of important places where asphalt is still present. There will also be a brand new grandstand at Eau Rouge and Radillon. The drivers are happy with the arrival of the gravel pits.

After the successful races at Mugello and the Nurburgring, the drivers generally see this as good changes, but Spa is not only doing it for Formula 1. The circuit also hopes to get a FIM licence to bring MotoGP to Belgium.

Driver satisfaction

"Welcome back gravel and pray for more gravel in the future, and grass and everything because it's exactly what I think we all need to make the circuits nice and spectacular again," says Carlos Sainz according to Autosport.com. "I hope there's something else going on at Spa and they're not wasting €80m on gravel!"

George Russell would also like to see the gravel boxes return along the circuits. "This is what racing is about. It's having that thrill, being on the limit, knowing if you make a mistake, you will be punished."

According to the Williams driver, there are too many tracks that don't provide that element while driving.
