Brundle expected more from Red Bull at the Nurburgring

Mercedes were once again in a class of their own at the Nürburgring. Lewis Hamilton secured a record-equalling race win, pulling level with the great Michael Schumacher. Martin Brundle believes that Hamilton is in good shape and is fast heading for the seventh world title but expected more from Red Bull last weekend.

"After the race on Sunday he said he could see at Bottas that the front tyres were in bad shape and that he was therefore putting pressure on them. At one point Bottas lost it while braking and went wide. Valtteri later said that his own lockup was a warning to Lewis that there was little grip," Brundle explained in his column for Sky Sports.

Red Bull no danger

"Hamilton, however, managed to make a gap, which was not quickly shortened until the safety car entered the track". It was an exciting first lap between the Mercedes pair but the expected battle between between Hamilton and Verstappen never came. "I had hoped that Red Bull and Max could be more of a threat for Mercedes on the track and with the conditions."

However, Brundle doesn't believe Red Bull near the same level as Mercedes at the moment. "He could only hang onto Hamilton for a moment and was never really a danger. It was quite telling how excited he and the team were to take Lewis' last point with the fastest lap. Nothing much more he can do at the moment," concluded. Brundle.
