Red Bull Racing have no idea what their actual form is at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy. In recent years, the team has taken grid penalties due to a change of engine parts. This year, Honda aren't expecting to take any penalties. In Italy, Red Bull will start from their qualifying position.

No grid penalties for Red Bull

In the past, Red Bull Racing often chose not to immediately put a new engine in the RB of Max Verstappen after the summer break. In Belgium, the expectations were often too high for that. In Italy, where the team is often troubled by the straights, they took a penalty for it.

Because of the coronavirus, the strategy around the PU parts is a lot different. This season the team won't have to take a grid penalty in Italy (as it looks now). Team boss Christian Horner is curious about the actual shape of the team in Italy.

Red Bull sight on position Monza

"We've surprised ourselves before," reports the team boss in conversation with Sky Sports. "That we performed better than we had thought before. Here [at Monza, ed.] we have always had to take grid penalties, so hopefully this weekend without grid penalties we will have a good view on where we really are on this circuit".

Horner concludes: "Of course Mercedes is the favourite again and it will be very difficult to get close to them. On the other hand, it is very hot and it will probably be a one-stop Sunday. If we look at how the tyres went last week, it could just get interesting here".
