Renault expecting little updates to 2020 F1 engine as focus shits to 2021

Renault will focus on their 2021 F1 engine rather than worry about upgrades for the current campaign. The CEO of Renault claims there won't be many upgrades to the current version as their attentions shifts towards getting prepared for the 2021 season. 

Renault themselves and McLaren are the two teams aiming to close the gap on the big three. They are also the teams who will be running the French engine, though McLaren will terminate the relationship at the end of the current season as they return to Mercedes. 

The engine that is now in the Renault and McLaren, will in fact not be updated in 2020, so Remi Taffin told the Spanish AS. The French racing stable focuses entirely on 2021, where it will come with a new engine. 

Last of the generation 

"This will be the last engine of the current generation that we started two seasons ago. There will not be many updates during the season, because we want to quickly focus on the engine of 2021. The biggest upgrades in 2020 are already on the engine and must be a step ahead of 2019," says the Renault CEO.

Daniel Ricciardo is out of contract ahead of the 2021 season and will take some persuading to stay. After a disappointing 2019 season, they will be looking to bounce back immediately in Ricciardo's home race. This is also the fifth year on their five year plan to return to race-winning ways...
