AlphaTauri’s AT01 makes track debut at Misano

Just a day after the newly-formed Scuderia AlphaTauri uncovered their brand-new machine, the AT01, the car hit the track at Misano during a filming day on Saturday.

Leaving the Toro Rosso name after 15 years behind, the rechristened AlphaTauri team presented its 2020 car at a buzzing fashion show at Red Bull’s Salzburg headquarter. However, this morning saw the drivers and the team get up early as they flew from Austria to Misano, Italy for the car’s very first on-track appearance.

At around 10 a.m, the car featuring a striking livery left the garage to hit the Italian track for the first time. With the sun beating down, the outfit could make the best out of the important day. To create the best content for their social media platforms and advertising, a helicopter was also in operation throughout the day.

Although teams are only allowed to cover a maximum of 100km and are forced to use Pirelli’s extra hard non-race tyres during their two filming days, the shakedown runs are particularly important this year as the winter testing programme is shorter in 2020. This highlights the need of a good starting reliability even more as teams have to run consistently from the first day on if they want to tick all the boxes they set for their pre-season work.

For the 2019/2020 season, the fully-electric racing series, the FIA ABB Formula E has introduced a unique feature, the drivers’ eye which provides fans with an onboard camera angle that has never been seen before. Fans can enjoy onboard shots which help them experience what the drivers see while driving the race tracks. Increasing the buzz around the outfit, the Alpha Tauri team also mounted a special ’drivers’ eye’ camera inside Kvyat’s and Gasly’s helmet to show what the two drivers experience behind the wheel of the new AT01.
