Renault Sport Academy have added both Oscar Piastri and Hadrien David to their ranks for the 2020 season. The two new drivers are both teenagers who have demonstrated their skills and talents by winning championships last season.

Piastri and David join Max Fewtrell, Christian Lundgaard, Guanyu Zhou and Caio Collet on Renault's junior programme. Last season, 18-year-old Oscar won the Formula Renault Eurocup, whilst 15-year-old David won the Formula 4 championship.

Oscar, who was born in Australia, will race for Prema Racing in their bid to retain their Formula 3 Championship. Fellow Renault Academy man Fewtrell will race in the same championship, but he will drive for Hitech. In Formula 2, Chinese Guanyu Zhou is a favourite for the title after an impressive first year. He will be joined by Lundgaard.

Cyril Abiteboul

Formula 1 team boss Cyril Abiteboul says he is confident the additional personnel in the Academy will help better their chances of a championship. He is sure there will be a driver good enough to reach Formula 1 in the short term.

"We now want the programme to progress to the next level, and target championship wins in 2020. The Academy was first set-up in 2016 with the long-term objective of progressing a driver from the RSA to a seat with the Formula 1 team, and with the talent, we have in the Academy we are still confident of achieving this in the relative short term," Abiteboul said.

"The ability within the Academy is there for all to see. On a wider level, I am also pleased to see Renault global markets getting behind the programme and supporting their local drivers. I am very proud of the programme and its activation and I look forward to following the success on and off track."
