Kimi Raikkonen believes Formula 1 can look "ridiculous" when it doesn't race due to the wet weather conditions, and believes when he started his F1 career; they would've carried on despite the rain.

All of the news comping out of Japan is about the Super Typhoon Hagibis that is set to disrupt the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend, with the threat of the typhoon hitting Suzuka Circuit during qualifying.

Raikkonen started his F1 career in 2001 and he believes there was much more chance back then that the weather wouldn't disrupt the weekend as much as it does nowadays.

“If it looks bad they might cancel straight away and not even come,” Raikkonen said, as quoted by RaceFans.

“Obviously we know how limited we are with the tyres, unfortunately. It doesn’t need much rain then we have aquaplaning, that’s the issue, then obviously you have zero control.”

Raikkonen believes in the "early days" of his career, this wouldn't have been an issue and states that F1 can be "really ridiculous sometimes".

“[In] the early days when I started it could rain really heavy and we never had an issue,” the former world champion said. “So for sure the tyres are not best when there’s standing water but that’s how it is unfortunately.

“It doesn’t look like there’s a lot of water, it looks really ridiculous sometimes that we cannot run. But that’s just how it is.”
