McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl has said that current drivers Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris are the “future” of McLaren as the team want to improve and produce a better car for the future.

Sainz and Norris were both new drivers for McLaren at the start of 2019, with the Spaniard moving over from Renault and the Brit making his way up the ranks from Formula 2 having been the team’s junior driver.

Results have kept on coming for the Woking based team as they sit fourth in the constructor’s championship behind Red Bull and lead rivals Renault by 33 points.

Seidl confirmed that both of their drivers will be staying for the future and claims that Sainz has been helpful towards the team’s development of the car with his knowledge.

“We have no doubts about seeing these two drivers as our future,” he told AS newspaper.

“Having that clarity is fantastic for us and will help us improve as a team.

“When you hear him speak, you would think he has an engineering degree.

“I see a lot of potential in both of them.

“They are the future of this team, now it’s up to us to improve and give them a better car.”

2021 will see McLaren return to using Mercedes engines in their cars since 2014 after using Honda between 2015-17 and Renault since the start of 2018.
