Racing Point's new factory shows "good potential" according to Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez might not have been at Racing Point all of his career, but he certainly feels like he belongs there. Under Force India, he took the team into administration, and now he's pleased with the new factory because it will help them grow.

After the administration drama last summer, Lawerence Stroll brought out the team which opened up more funding. Part of these funds has been pumped into building a new factory.

“It definitely shows a good potential and is a solid move. The team is in the best position it has ever been. These things take time but [the plan for the new factory] is really encouraging. It’s nice to see that the future is looking bright for the team," Perez told Formula 1.

The new factory will remain at their Silverstone site despite growth in Canada. They currently sit behind McLaren, but at the top of a congested midfield in 5th.

Along with a new factory, Racing Point expects to hire an extra 200 people, taking their staff total up to 600. With all this growth outside of the race car, team boss Otmar Szafnauer is pleased but also cautious.

“We are growing and we’re recruiting now – but not at a pace where we’d take a half-step backwards. We’ve got to really be careful that the new factory that’s being planned now, as well as our recruitment drive and some other things that are changing, don't affect the performance at the end of the season. So it’s a fine balance to strike but it’s one we’re conscious of and working hard to make sure we get right," the team boss said.
