Ferrari may well have found their answer to issues facing the team so far this season. The Scuderia looked fastest of anybody in testing but is yet to win a single race while rivals Mercedes have dominated.

Having been the favourites heading into the season according to many, Ferrari slumped to a fourth and fifth place finish at the season-opening race in Melbourne.

They looked to have bounced back in Bahrain with Charles Leclerc just a matter of laps away from his first F1 win until reliability issues cost him certain victory.

The Chinese Grand Prix was more of the same, with the straight-line pace advantage Ferrari supposedly enjoys nowhere to be seen as Mercedes took a third straight one-two.

In the Ferrari race preview, Binotto noted that the team had been working hard at identifying where they had gone wrong so far in 2019 and highlighted the straight line demands of the street circuit.

“Coming off the back of three races that definitely didn’t go the way we wanted, this GP is another important moment for us,” he said.

“We have prepared for it very well, analysing all the data we have acquired up until now, looking at areas where we can improve and working on adapting the car’s set-up and the power unit management to the characteristics of the track.

“In fact, Baku features a very long straight, which places special demands on the engine, both the internal combustion part as well as the hybrid elements."
