Newey: "Marko adds a lot to the team", young talent is a bonus

Adrian Newey has heaped praise on Helmut Marko for his contribution to the Red Bull talent pool and insists the Austrian might be blunt, but he means no harm in what he says.

Marko had a brief Formula 1 career of his own between 1971 and 1982 but he only made nine starts for BRM. The Austrian founded RSM Marko in 1989 which has since changed the name to the Red Bull Junior Team in 1999 and it has helped develop drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. 

He’s now an advisor for the Formula 1 team and Newey praised the impact he’s had throughout the team.

"It must be something cultural. I think it is an Austrian trait, they tend to be more blunt,” Newey told the Royal Automobile Club Talk Show.

"We English are slightly more nuanced in the way we talk to people.

“Marko adds a lot to the team and has his If young talent is doing well, then that is the icing on the cake for him.

“Sebastian Vettel was the first of his program to become a real star, so Marko was always on his side,” added the Brit.
