After being beat by his teammate Valtteri Bottas to pole position, reigning champion Lewis Hamilton praised his teammate as well as Mercedes as a whole for the performance they've shown all weekend long, as the Silver Arrows will start from the front row for the second time this season.

Bottas was the quickest of the two W10's for most of Free Practice, with the Finn setting the pace in both FP2 and FP3. The 33-year-old was way behind in those sessions, and as he eventually finished within a tenth of his teammate in qualifying, when it matters most, Hamilton is happy.

"I didn't give up, I kept pushing," Hamilton told Martin Brundle on the grid.

"Valtteri has been stellar all weekend.

"I've been fighting the car but I'm much happier. It was eight tenths at one stage so to be as close as we are at the end is fantastic."

As he often does, Hamilton was quick to praise Mercedes as a team.

"It's an incredible result for the team.

"Ferrari are particularly quick on the straights. It's evident this weekend we've gained some performance through the corners."
