Max Verstappen says he isn't in a rush to become Formula 1's youngest-ever world champion. The Dutchman has taken the sport by storm since arriving back in 2015 but is not in a car capable of mounting a title challenge with Red Bull Honda.

Verstappen has racked up five wins in his relatively short F1 career but the elusive first world championship looks to be evading him for the immediate future.

Red Bull embarks on a new partnership in 2019 with Japanese manufacturer Honda in the hopes of mounting a title challenge but Verstappen says he is in no hurry to become the youngest world champion in the sport's history.

“I know the situation, but I will not lose sleep if it doesn’t happen,” he explained to Helsingin Sanomat.

“It’s difficult anyway. If I do not succeed in these next two years, then I would just try again the next time."

Verstappen also explained how superstardom has affected his ability to go home, instead choosing to live in Monaco like several other drivers on the grid.

“I think Kimi has the same trouble in Finland as I have in the Netherlands,” he said.

“I can’t walk anywhere without someone talking to me or taking pictures. It has become increasingly difficult.

“I enjoy being able to live in Monaco. It is quiet and peaceful and nobody bothers me. I can meet my family and we can go anywhere without being disturbed,” said Verstappen.
